Carson: "Dad, I forgot, but I got an email earlier this week saying that I won a $100 gift card."
Dad: "Sounds like a scam."
Carson: "I did complete a survey a few months ago."
Dad: "Let's look at the email."
After carefully reviewing the email chain, we put the gift card code into Amazon and it was valid. He actually won a $100 Amazon gift card!

RockCreek held a family retreat last weekend at the Salamander Resort in Middleburg, VA. The Salamander Resort is an upscale hotel and resort on 340 scenic acres. It hosts many equestrian and other unique outdoor experiences.
Angela and Carson participated in the Falconry course. It included an hour long class on the history of falconry, types of falcons, caring for falcons, and how to become a falconer (8 years of study, practice, and lots of money). After the class, they went out to a large field and watched the falcon fly, catch food, and they took turns having the falcon land on their arms and take off again.
While Angela and Carson were learning falconry, Tucker, Savannah, and Keith were Zip Lining. This was the first time that we have done a zip lining course. We went on 5 zip lines, with distances ranging from 275' to 675', all about 40'-60' high. While waiting between lines, our group of about 10 people stood on tiny platforms high in the trees with no railings (but we did have harnesses). I was a little concerned that Savannah or Tucker would struggle with the heights, but they were so brave! On the very first line, all of the adults looked a little nervous, but then there was Tucker with a huge smile -- excited to get going.
RockCreek also arranged for a bounce house, other group activities, and some good food. What a great company activity!

Carson, Tucker, and I went on a quick camping trip in Oakton, VA, in the Scout Leaders yard. The kids prepared their own foil dinners with hamburger, carrots, and potatoes and cooked them over the fire.

Happy Birthday Savannah! We celebrated with great friends and a delicious cake from Safeway.
Savannah also received special 'Birthday Sushi' from the lady that prepares the Sushi at Safeway. Angela and Savannah have gotten to know her since we moved here and so she told Savannah that if she came on her birthday, she would make special 'Birthday Sushi' for her. She prepared a heart shape made out of rolls with some nigiri in the middle and gave it to her for free.
Since she was little, Savannah has liked crab legs. So she had to have them this year for her birthday dinner. We made the mistake of mentioning that we were there for her birthday, so the waiters delivered her a treat while singing an obnoxiously loud happy birthday song.

Tucker and Keith went for a hike with the Cub Scouts on the Gerry Connolly County Trail in Fairfax. Part of the trail runs behind our house, but we went a few miles from our house. It always amazes me that these beautiful trails are so close to home.

Keith is the Den Leader for a Cub Scout group at church. This week, our family helped out with a service project making sandwiches and granola for homeless in the area. They have a food truck that delivers the food to the Homeless. Everyone had a good time and was glad to help out.

The kids each earned two tickets to a Nationals baseball game, courtesy of the DC Library system Summer Reading Program. Fortunately, the we chose one of the few nights that wasn't pouring rain. Unfortunately, it was really hot and humid. But we had a good time at the game.

Friends in the Chevy Chase area recommended that we visit the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Despite it being one of the tallest buildings in the Virginia skyline, we hadn't heard of it and didn't even know it existed.
